Using Pinterest for Business

in Get Even More Foxy

It was only a matter of time before Pinterest released profiles for businesses and brands. As you will know from my previous posts detailing my addiction and approach to Pinterest I’ve been all over this shiz for some time. At the time of writing this I have stuck to my theory of organising it all and now have 46 47 boards and just shy of 4000 pins (give me until the weekend, that bitch  target will be mine!). After tackling the confusing challenge of verifying my profile I recently did some research on brands already using the business profiles and I have to say, I’m impressed. It’s forced an overdue  re-think of what I am doing with this platform in the longer term. Once I crack the goals I want to achieve I will be converting my personal profile to a brand page and dramatically overhauling my collection. Don’t hold your breath while I figure this out though, m’kay? For now just look at the pretty pictures… Like this shiz? 5 tips for dealing with change

in Get Your Shit Together

This is the view I grew up with, I never realised how much I missed this vista until I went to visit it on my roadtrip a few months back after a 3 year absence. I’m so pleased I went when I did because what I didn’t know was that of the two working farms my parent’s house backs onto, this one is in the final stages of being sub-divided. I feel a great affinity for this old shed, one of my best friends in my early teens lived in the house behind it and we spent many hours at each other’s house having sleepovers, swims and sliding down that hill on cardboard boxes! In latter years my parents would consider the couple who own it some of their closest friends. For close to 30 years we’ve been able to watch the seasons change with this shed on the hill, and all too soon we’re going to be staring into people’s backyards. It kills me a little, but you can’t fight progress I guess! I took this photo on a freezing morning at sunrise and used my fine art Photoshop editing skills (that I am so thankful to have been

Being a better blogging citizen

in Get Your Shit Together

One of the things gnawing at me on my to-do list lately has been to become a better citizen in the bloggy community in which I live. To make an even greater effort to read, comment and share the great work we all create because I really believe that to get this kind of interaction in return you need to give it! But how to fit this into already jam-packed days was stressing me out. And then I got it. I just had to commit to doing it and make it a priority over and above simply being busy. Allow me to explain, I work two jobs (I’m a senior manager of a high performing team and run my own business), write this blog, volunteer my time on the state council for a professional photographic industry body, attend various networking events and care for my two dogs. Not that uncommon a story for many small business owners and management execs, busy juggling a million things. For me, to try and get everything done I wake up at 5.30 – 6am, 7 days a week to nudge it all along and keep everything ticking over plus I ride modern technology hard to achieve that.

How to Verify Your Pinterest Profile

in Get Your Shit Together

If I had a dollar for every ‘How to verify your site on Pinterest’ post that in Step 2 of their 3 Step process just said word to the effect of ‘just get your techie to do it in, like, less than 10 seconds’ I would have $7. Most likely much more than that but I lost my shit after the first page of Google results and gave up. How many small biz owners who can fumble along with their own blogsite are actually their own technical support go-to and have no idea what Step 2 means?! To catch you up, Pinterest has released a new feature allowing you to verify your website. When your website is verified, people will see a checkmark next to your domain in search results. They will also see the full website URL and checkmark on your profile. To do this they need you to confirm that you have access to your website’s server by uploading a unique HTML file to it.  At this stage it can only be done for a top-level domain, such as www.example.com, and HTML file upload is the only verification method.  They anticipate releasing other options in the near future. So for bloggers this means you

The importance of first impressions for your business

in Be a Fabulous Badass

During the first impression phase (backed up by proper science) you have a very small window to make the right impact and engage someone’s interest – so make it count! If you’re thinking that you want to celebrate your milestones or take your personal branding to the next level, then consider these points from the experts: Represent the value you are consistently able to deliver  Personal branding, much like social media, is about making a full-time commitment to the journey of defining yourself as a leader and how this will shape the manner in which you will serve others. via Glen Lopis @ Forbes Magazine Attract the right clients. The first thing I do before I do business with anyone is to Google them and get a feel for what they’re about. And I look you up across all your social media platforms too so that I can see if I like what you have to say and the personality you are trying to represent. That’s why I truly believe that your visual identity is so important in order to help you attract the right kind of client or potential collaborator – be that another small business or large brand. via Louise @ Foxy and Fabulous

For bloggers: sanity saving tools

in Get Your Shit Together

I had quite a few lovely ladies ask me at the recent Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 conference in Sydney about my iPad keyboard.  Let me just tell you, it is worth EVERY penny.  While it’s not a replacement for a full keyboard and the iPad2 itself is not a substitute for a more powerful laptop, it is perfect for checking, writing, posting and doodling on the go.  And on the sofa.  And the toilet, or so I’ve heard… I wanna be a multi-tasking ninja too! [Tweet this] It’s made by Zagg and I bought mine from a very helpful little place in Brisbane called Evoke Digital.  Fast, efficient and helpful service. The iPad slides into (it’s a verrrry tight fit, intentionally I suppose) the top lid of the fold out hard case. You initially need to charge it overnight and then sync it via the iPad settings (comes with instructions) and then I’ve not actually charged mine solo since (I’ve had it 6 months). I just love it, makes working on the run really easy and multi-tasking and working on the go are a key part of my strategy of almost having my shit together! In my opinion the only downsides are that the

Blog convention essentials

in Get Your Shit Together

I’m heading to my first of what I hope will be regular events that bring bloggers of all walks together to laugh, learn and like each other a whole lot more than we already do!  Tomorrow I’m heading to the – SOLD OUT – Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 conference in Sydney for the day.  I’m pretty darn excited to meet some gorgeous fellow lady bloggers that I’ve come to know and love on twitter.  I’ll report on that later, but remember ladies… what happens at Blogopolis, stays at Blogopolis!  [Tweet this] To get myself ready for the event I’ve decide to fly in and out from Melbourne to Sydney on the same day as, quite frankly, it’s less to organise and less drama for me right now!  I have a girlfriend coming to walk my dogs and I’ll be home in time to tuck us all in. In preparation for Blogopolis I took the opportunity to re-design my business cards and make them specifically blog business cards, Blogopolis and beyond.  This card with my photo on it is what I used to have.  Eye catching photo, yes.  But on reflection all the type down below is too small.  I really should fire
